The current Honda Accord, a turbocharged sedan with three-pedal fun, is one example. That was the case up until recently when Honda began cutting back on the manual Accord. They also discontinued the Civic Coupe, Fit subcompact, and decided to discontinue the manual Accord in 2021. As depressing as this news is, how about if the Japanese giant decided to go completely bonkers and bring back the Accord wagon with a turbocharged motor and a manual transmission in stunning ‘Type R’ guise. The study features a bold new front facia. It boasts a large grille, hood scoop, and red-accented lower splitting. The Accord’s front-wheel-drive proportions have been altered to exude an RWD bias. This has been done by increasing the axle/dash ratio.

The most noticeable change is the conversion from saloon to wagon. This study, unlike many estate cars that have a generic rear-quarter glasshouse, keeps the window-line uptick from the sedan. It intersects the chrome trim at the base of the rear pillar. The result is a sleek, dynamic hauler with satin roof rails and a sloped roof. Its rearview shows full-width LED taillamps and an aggressive diffuser. Lower red accents and quad exhausts further cement its ‘go fast’ appearance.
Powertrain
The Civic’s turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which is a Type-R model, was the first thing that came to mind when it was referred to as a hot powertrain. The wagon would be able to keep up with its smaller brother, the Accord if it had a power increase of up to 350 hp.

Honda would have very few direct competitors in North America if it did produce an Accord Type R wagon. It’s a different story elsewhere, with options such as the Arteon R Shooting Brake from Volkswagen, Peugeot 508 Sport Engineered plug-in hybrid wagon, and Subaru’s upcoming Levorg STI Wagon. Honda would need to prove that the wagon model of the Accord is feasible. Wishful thinking aside. It’s unlikely that an SUV-oriented version with lots of plastic cladding will be available soon.
