Engine

The hybrid powertrain that powers the HR-V in Europe will be borrowed from the Insight hybrid car and the Accord hybrid car. However, Honda has not yet revealed what engine will power the smallest SUV when it launches in North America. We hope Honda will offer a stronger powertrain in its next-generation HRV. This could be a 158-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder taken from the Civic compact vehicle. We expect improvements in these areas as well. The HR-V’s predecessor did not offer the quiet athleticism that we have come to expect from Hondas. We will update this article with driving impressions, test results, and more information when we have a chance to drive it.

Interior

With this new generation, the HR-V will have a modern interior design. It is clearly inspired by Honda’s 2022 Civic. The new minimalist design is both elegant and classic. It features a storage bin in front of the shifter and a rectangular air vent that divides the lower and upper dash panels. The new HRV will also have an independent infotainment screen. Honda’s Magic Seat was featured in the outgoing model. This allows the rear bench of the vehicle to fold down to form a flat, low floor. Despite its small size, the HR-V was the leader in the segment for cargo capacity.

Infotainment & Connectivity

All models will likely include a touchscreen infotainment system that includes Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. It stands tall in the middle and appears to be wider than the 7.0-inch screen on the previous model. We expect to see niceties like in-dash navigation and SiriusXM radio, as well as onboard Wi-Fi, SiriusXM radio, and SiriusXM radio, as at least options.

Safety

By 2022, we expect that the HR-V will have more standard driver assistance features. This includes advanced tech like adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping aid. Visit the websites of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), for more information on the HR-V’s crash-test results. The following safety features are key:

  • Automated emergency braking
  • Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assistance
  • Standard adaptive control
  • Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Honda’s standard warranty package for the C-HR is quite basic. However, rival SUVs like the Kona or Seltos have much more comprehensive coverage plans. The Toyota C-HR comes with a complimentary two-year maintenance plan. Honda does not offer this perk.
